Tammy Mitchell Red Owl, a member of the Bishop Paiute Tribe and a descendant of the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara (MHA) Nation, is a Licensed Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LAADC) and Internationally Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (ICAADC) serving the Toiyabe community as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor II in the Wellness and Recovery Department of Family Services.
Drawing upon her lived experience as a woman in long-term recovery and her educational background, which includes a bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies, a Master of Divinity, and a Master of Science in Addiction Counseling, she supports clients in overcoming substance abuse and other life challenges. Currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (expected graduation Spring 2026.
Her counseling approach is trauma- and stigma-informed, integrates psychodynamic elements, dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, internal family systems, and motivational interviewing.
Teresa recently earned her doctorate in Counseling Psychology and is working toward her licensure here at Toiyabe Family Services. Prior to coming to Toiyabe, Teresa worked as a school psychologist in our local school districts for several years and also worked as a behavioral health provider Mammoth Hospital. Teresa specializes in providing mental health services to children and adolescents, however enjoys working with clients of all ages.
