Dr. Kori Novak, Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Kori Novak is an accomplished Senior Executive with more than 18 years of success spanning healthcare and gerontology.
Dr. Novak is currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the Toiyabe Indian Health Project after working with several other Native American Tribal organizations in California. In addition, she is a Sr. Researcher in Gerontology at Oxford University (UK) , a Sr. Fellow of Sociology at the School of Law and Social Science at the University of Suffolk (UK) and a Professor at Concordia University Nebraska where she teaches Healthcare Administration and Gerontology courses. Dr. Novak has been a guest lecturer and keynote speaker for several domestic and international associations/Congresses revolving around the fields of Gerontology, Health Care and Criminal Justice.
Dr. Novak attained her Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Ethno-Geriatrics and End of Life Care from The Stanford University School of Medicine, her Ph.D. in Human Services and Gerontology with Summa Cum Laude honors from Capella University, her MBA with a concentration in Marketing, Public Relations, and Healthcare Administration with Magna Cum Laude honors from The Graziadio School of Business at Pepperdine University, and her BA in International Relations and Russian with Cum Laude honors from the University of Denver.
Mark Alford, Chief Operations Officer
Mr. Mark Alford has 20 years of experience in healthcare operations, strategy and new growth and development including 12 years in administration and corporate level executive management. His extensive background includes working in hospital systems with a full continuum of care, including in-patient acute care and outpatient clinics. He has a strong background in business and clinical process and performance improvement. His experience in new business development revolves around establishing new contracts, partnerships and collaborations to improve the health and well-being of individuals served and reducing total cost of care for target populations.
Mr. Alford earned his M.A. in clinical psychology from the University of Detroit Mercy and holds a B.S. Degree in Psychology from Wayne State University.
Jernon Kelly, Chief Financial Officer
Mrs. Jernon Kelly has over 20 years in finance and accounting. She was the former CFO for the city of Youngtown, Arizona and has significant experience in finance with government entities. In addition she has been a consultant with one of the Big Three audit firms as well as a teacher. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy as well as a Master’s agree in Accountancy with an emphasis in information systems.
Summer Frazier, Chief Medical Officer
Summer Frazier received her Doctorate of Medicine in 2010 from Loma Linda University after earning a BS in Biology in 2004. She completed her residency training at Glendale Adventist Hospital in 2014 and thereafter received her Board Certification in Family Medicine. She has worked for Toiyabe Indian Health since 2014 and has recently taken on the Chief Medical Officer roll. During her time at Toiyabe she also completed the Helm’s Acupuncture course and has incorporated this into her full scope practice at Toiyabe. Dr. Frazier’s motto is “To make man whole” as she cares for her patients.
Gary Bacock, Accreditation Director
Gary began working at Toiyabe on 9/28/17 as the Human Resource Manager and on 3/4/19 was appointed the new Accreditation Director. This new position is to perform all needed duties to have Toiyabe gain national accreditation from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. otherwise known as “AAAHC”. Becoming accredited is to provide health care to our patients following the best standards of care and to also allow for better compensation for services (from Medicare, Medicaid, and the health insurance industry).
Gary has education in a number of fields, with an AA Degree in Fire Science (Pasadena City College), a BS Degree in Business Administration with a specialty in Human Resource Management (from Cal State University, Long Beach (CSULB), and an MPA Degree in Public Policy and Administration (from CSULB). He also gained Credentialed Manager (CM) status from the International City/County Managers’ Association in 2009.
Gary’s experience is summarized by working in top management for over 30 years in City Government for the City of South Gate (CA), the City of Cypress (CA), and the Town/City of Fernley (NV) with his last position as Town Manager and then City Manager. He has worked in top management of Tribal Government for about 5¾ years (for the Big Pine Paiute Tribe of the Owen’s Valley, the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe, and the Bishop Paiute Tribe). And, finally he is working in Tribal Health at Toiyabe since September of 2017 (18 months+).
Gary is part Paiute, Shoshone, and Karuk, and a member of the Bishop Paiute Tribe. His father was raised in the Owens Valley at Laws, CA and his mother was raised at the mouth of the Salmon River and the Klamath River in Somes Bar, CA.
